Get Your Body Summer Ready

Living in San Diego, many people often think that we are in summer-mode year round. While you can find us playing beach volleyball in January or catching a wave while most people in the country are buried under snow, even San Diegans  are guilty of transitioning into winter mode.  May is now here, and we are psyched to get summer ready! We’re sharing some tips that will help you feel your best when you hit the beach this summer.

Up Your Intake of Fruits and Veggies

Try focusing on the types of fruits and vegetables you consume.  With warmer weather coming, summer produce begins to make an appearance.  Specific fruits and vegetables are known for their slimming effects.  For fruits, focus on consuming berries, pineapple, and melon.  When choosing vegetables, try spinach, asparagus, cucumber, and broccoli.

Incorporate HIIT Sessions

While working out in general is great for your health, try stepping it up a notch by incorporating HIIT workouts into your routine 2 times a week.  What exactly is HIIT? It stands for High Intensity Interval Training.  It entails putting your max effort in cardio for a short amount of time, say 30 seconds to a minute, then slowing down, or having a rest period, for a minute to lower your heart rate.  Continue to do this for approximately 20 minutes.  This method of cardio has been shown to burn fat more effectively than steady state long cardio.

Cryotherapy

Who wouldn’t want to have a quick solution to cool off during the heat of the summer? Not only does this cold therapy aid in reducing inflammation, it also boosts metabolism, improves collagen production in the skin, and increases energy levels. All this leads to a rad day at the beach all summer long! Here in San Diego, Cryo Shield offers great membership prices to get you ready for the summer. In addition to cryotherapy sessions, a membership with Cryo Shield allows you to utilize the exclusive, state of the art gym-Exos at our Torrey Pines location to jumpstart your workout routine. Call or stop by to ask a specialist for more information.

Consume Foods that Help with Bloating

To help with bloating, the best things to consume are lemons, ginger, apple cider vinegar, and peppermint.  In the morning, try a super tonic of warm lemon water mixed with apple cider vinegar.  At night, try unwinding with peppermint tea.  Finally, to calm your stomach, grate some ginger either into your tea, or mixed in with a green juice.  All of these super foods greatly help with digestion so you feel your best at the beach!

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is literally that, taking a dry brush and brushing your skin before taking a shower. This ancient practice stimulates the lymphatic system to detox the body of impurities and improve circulation.  Not only is this a very relaxing self-care process, it also exfoliates, clears pores, and improves your skin.
